Prom!

Prom is in the air, and I am wicked jealous. I had a very safe, timid sensibility when it came to my own proms. Now that I’m older and more confident, I’m dying for planned events with suits and fancy dresses, spiked punch and slow dances. I tried living vicariously through my little sister, but alas, she already has her senior prom dress (a very cool Etsy find made of men's ties and tulle). Still, it’s fun to imagine what I would wear if I got a second crack at it.

I’ll start by admitting that my current infatuation with tulle would come heavily into play. In fact, if I could just wear the Alice in Wonderland dress I gushed about a few weeks ago, I’d call it day. I finally found pictures of it. It still makes my heartbeat go all funny:

So, a fitted top and crazy tulle skirt it would probably have to be. I've become completely smitten with this dress, and only wish I had an event worth buying a fancy dress for:

Of course, this is a tad wacky for prom. I'd be a bit more classic when it came to accessories:

Anyone else feeling like the really good formal dress opportunities are wasted on those who are still finding their fashion sense, and are limited by parental budgets? We 'grownups' are totally missing out. What are you wearing to prom, even if it's the one in your imagination?

  1. I'd kill to dress up for a formal again - and that last dress is just what I'd like to wear!

  2. something retro-ish with a modern twist. Nothing wrong with being classic, Audrey Hepburn style.

  3. My dream is for a fitted tutu party dress, but I would need to lose weight around my tummy/love handles before even considering it :( you do have quite amazing taste :) x

  4. The striped tulle dress is so cute! If I had another prom, I would consider wearing that.

I fortunately have no regrets about what did wear to my senior prom, a lavender gown with a fitted halter bodice covered in beading.

I can't wait until my little sister has a prom to attend so I can go dress shopping with her though!!

  5. Wow. I couldn't agree with this post more. I would love to have another stab at prom, especially now that I'm older, more mature, and more confident. Back in high school, prom seemed to be filled with so much drama and lack of self-confidence, I didn't enjoy it very much. Sigh.

I love your dress picks. Those are so fab! I wish I could go back in time and be more courageous with my prom dress.

Isn't there an adult prom in KC hosted by the Buzz?? I wonder if that's over already...probably. I'll have to check it out next year! :P

  7. I TOTALLY feel the same way!! If I could pick a prom dress now, I would definitely not pick what I did back then! I would pick something much more edgy and unique! Don't know exactly what, but probably from etsy, or make something myself out of recycled vintage/thrifted clothes!
